So you got your cannabis recommendation from a California doctor, and are now ready to look for medicine. But where do you even begin?
This is a question that hundreds of new patients have to ask themselves everyday, and unfortunately, the answer varies depending on where you look. People who are just discovering medical cannabis (or re-introducing themselves) are entering a marketplace that is competitive, saturated, and politicized. In many cases, these flaws of the current cannabis industry can leave a patient feeling uncomfortable.
Building a Cannabis Company Around Patients
When Yerba was founded over a year ago, there was a clear vision to build an organization that supported its very own community. Realizing that the most important pieces in this puzzle are the patients, the mission instantly centered around a delivery service that goes beyond expectations to ensure people are happy.
Putting people over profits in a business plan is often laughed at by “savvy” businesses, and yet this is the key factor behind Yerba’s unmatched success with Bay Area patients. Every member of our customer support team comes to work with a smile because they know they will absolutely help someone find their way.
Providing accurate and unbiased cannabis information is a huge feat, especially when explanations have to be constructed for someone completely new to cannabis medicine. So what is the most important thing every new patient should know? You are unique!
Yerba Helps Bay Area Patients Find the Best Medicine
Every person reacts differently to cannabis! You may find differences in duration, intensity, or you may find that you feel the opposite effects typically associated with different types and forms of cannabis.
Indica, Sativa, Hybrid… What’s That?
For instance, cannabis is often categorized as being Indica, Sativa, or Hybrid. This classification is the best way people have found so far to attribute general feelings to complex cannabis genetics.
Indica: Often described using phrases like “body-high, stoned, in-da-couch”
Sativa: Often described using phrases like “head-high, cerebral, high”
Hybrid: After decades of cannabis breeding, nearly every strain has some amount of Indica and Sativa in its genetic lineage. Often, Hybrid strains are defined as being “Indica-dominant or Sativa dominant”
Cannabinoids: The Science Behind the Comfort
Flowers and products are also classified by their cannabinoid content. Cannabinoids are the chemicals that actually interact with the different physiological systems operating inside our bodies.
THC: This is the main psychoactive chemical in cannabis. Many studies suggest that THC provides pain relief, reduces swelling, suppresses spasms, protects neurons, and stimulates appetite. THC stimulates both the CB1 and CB2 receptors in our endocannabinoid system.
CBD: This chemical is non-psychoactive and has been very popular due to studies showing it can be effective against bacteria, seizures, anxiety, cancers, inflammation, swelling, insomnia, and bone degradation. CBD stimulates CB2 receptors more than it stimulates CB1 receptors (which are typically clustered in the brain).
What Types of Cannabis Work Best?
Another aspect that is important to consider is the type of cannabis product that you use to medicate. There are many, many types of cannabis products, so do not feel overwhelmed when you first begin exploring the options. That’s why the Yerba support team is here to help!
Cannabis edibles refer to forms of medicine that are meant to be consumed orally. Here are a couple of examples of both fun and practical cannabis edibles:
- Baked Goods
Cannabis concentrates are forms of medicine created by extracting the cannabinoids and other chemical constituents from the flowers of cannabis plants. Like cannabis flowers, cannabis concentrates require heat to activate many medical properties of the cannabinoids.
Heat is applied to concentrates in a couple of different ways, including vaping, dabbing, hash pipe, and more. Each method is best for different types of concentrates, and while this information can get confusing, the Yerba support team has the answers! Here are some examples of different concentrate consistencies:
- Water Hash
Yerba and the Community Support One Another
Our success here at Yerba is a two-way street between our team and our patient community. Many of the most popular products that we deliver were originally stocked because of a patient’s suggestion.
Our quality assurance team takes patient feedback very seriously when considering the items carried on the menu. The result is a diverse set of cannabis medicines that meet the needs of thousands of different people. You can also fill out our patient survey for $5 off your next order!
Focusing on the patients helps our team feel incredible about the service we provide. Below is a testimonial we received that helps us know we are building an incredible cannabis company:
I’ve written this message several times since July 15, 2016 but each time I’ve stopped myself because I can’t remember your incredible employee’s full name…I have PTSD from childhood trafficking and severe abuse, a lot of my time was spent with drug addicts. As you may be able to imagine, there are things in life I go out of my way to avoid. On the 15th, I needed to have my medicine delivered because I was caring for my four year old daughter and couldn’t go to my usual special pharmacy. I realized that ordering from Yerba, having someone deliver marijuana to my home, was going to be uncomfortable for me. I was, in my mind, bringing drugs into my home with my daughter present.
My panic attack began before (the driver) arrived. I was barely articulate during (the driver’s) visit yet they treated me with so much kindness and compassion. They hugged me and it helped me to become present, they helped me to fight through the anxiety, and their kindness reminded me of my humanity in a moment when I felt less. Even though I can’t remember their first name in full (and I apologize because they said it 3 separate times), I want you to know how much I appreciate (the driver) and that I am very grateful that (the driver) was the first person to deliver medicine to my home. Thank you!”
When our team received this message, we were absolutely blown away. A Yerba driver getting a shout-out in an online review is nothing new – they are all awesome! But we were swelling with pride to hear that a driver just being themselves was able to positively affect one of our patients in such a powerful way.
